Language Talks Series #10: Acting Up with Language

Department of Foreign Language Education at the Faculty of Education at Bartın University (BARU) successfully hosted the 10th session of the Language Talks Series on December 16, 2024. The event, titled Acting Up with Language, featured Professor Melisa Cahnmann-Taylor, a renowned scholar in Language and Literacy Education from the University of Georgia.

Prof. Dr. Cahnmann-Taylor captivated the audience with her discussion on the creative and performative aspects of language learning and teaching. Together on Zoom, the participant students and Dr. Cahnmann-Taylor explored innovative techniques and methods such as integrating drama and improv techniques into second language classrooms. The lively Q&A session included  topics such as using theater-based activities to transform traditional teaching approaches, adapting drama to online environments, and overcoming challenges in integrating arts-based strategies. Prof. Cahnmann-Taylor shared insightful examples from her own experiences, demonstrating how such methods can create breakthrough moments in learning and build inclusivity for students with varying language proficiencies.
